We hear it all the time: “The youth are our future.” As your Youth Advisory Committee Coordinator for Angelique Ashby’s District One office, I will be a strong advocate for the youth in our district.
I grew up in North Natomas and have attended Natomas Unified School District public schools since 4th grade when Two Rivers Elementary opened its doors. I know firsthand the type of struggles that youth in our area face, and I have practical experience with students, parents, and school/youth officials to help make sure our kids succeed.
Right now we have a strong group made up of high school students in District One. The Committee meets weekly and is in the process of planning many events to get people excited about our community.
The Committee also serves in an advisory capacity, giving a voice to a demographic which is often completely ignored. The Youth Advisory Committee is a great tool to help move our district in the right direction and it will be exciting to see what new and exciting ideas they bring to the table.
Nothing gives me more joy then to see this community flourish as I know it can.
