The District One office is constantly working with our Department of Parks and Recreation to identify ways in which we can improve maintenance at our parks, keep programs (such as the Summer Oasis Program Vice Mayor Ashby brought back last year) and add amenities that will benefit residents. Last year, Vice Mayor Ashby, in coordination with staff, identified that the current community facilities district (CFD 3) – a funding source that all District One property owners pay into, was receiving an underfunded portion of the annual tax. Modifying the allocation has allowed us the opportunity to bring on board a new set of hands to serve as a Parks Liaison specific to District One, Elena Quintero.
Elena comes to the position with an extensive background as a community volunteer and has strong established relationships with many of the community groups, neighborhoods and parent groups in District One. Elena will be coordinating with the community to set up park clean-ups, and assist with maintenance and the day to day appearance of parks in District One.
As the District One Parks Liaison, she will work with volunteers and community groups at clean ups, workshops and events. She will also work to develop new volunteer opportunities as well as enhance existing programs by developing training, recruitment and orientation materials for volunteers as well as schedule, coordinate and lead volunteer activities.
If you are interested in adopting your local park or setting up a park clean up day, give Elena a call or send her an email. We are thrilled to welcome her on board!
