DISTRICT ONE PARKS

District One encompasses the North Natomas Community Plan Area, and has nearly 50 of the City’s 215 parks. To view for a complete list of information on all of the parks located in District One, visit:


DISTRICT ONE PARKS VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

 

With nearly 41% of the City’s parks, volunteers are needed to help give our parks the TLC they deserve. District One has a number of dedicated folks committed to our parks, including Rosemarie Benitez Ruggieri, the District One Parks & Recreation Commissioner, as well as a Parks Liaison specific to District One, Elena Quintero. Elena coordinates with the community to set up park clean-ups, and assists with maintenance and the day to day appearance of parks in District One. She works with volunteers and community groups to schedule, coordinate and lead volunteer activities, clean ups, and workshops. She has also developed new volunteer programs and enhanced existing programs. There are several volunteer options available for interested community members:

 

[column width="22%" padding="3%"]Park Ambassador: A leader of an organized group that would like to maintain a park throughout the year. [/column][column width="22%" padding="3%"]Park Steward: An individual who would like to maintain a park, either one time or on a regular basis. This person can also choose to lead a park maintenance event with the help of the Parks Department.[/column][column width="22%" padding="3%"]Park Volunteer: A person that would like to volunteer for a particular event, or would like to be available for future events. [/column][column width="22%" padding="3%"]PLAY (Parks Leadership Academy for Youth) Group Member: A middle or high school student interested in learning what it takes to put together and lead a park maintenance event from start to finish. This includes interacting with community organizations/associations, creating flyers, recruiting volunteers through social media & other avenues, working with Parks Department, & more.
