Mosquito and Vector Control Information

As is normal for this time of year, Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control is conducting tests for West Nile Virus in the community. Since May 1st Vector Control has set mosquito traps 40 times. Of those 40 traps 4 samples tested positive for West Nile Virus. According to Mosquito and Vector Control this is a relatively low year in terms of positive cases for Natomas.

Vector Control has treated the rice fields (where the bulk of West Nile carrying mosquitos come from) 10 times with another treatment scheduled for this evening.

To help ensure you stay protected against West Nile, Vector Control recommends following The 7 D’s:

DRAIN any standing water that may produce mosquitoes.

DAWN and DUSK are times to avoid being outside. This is when mosquitoes are most active.

DRESS appropriately by wearing long sleeves and pants when outdoors.

DEFEND yourself against mosquitoes by using an effective insect repellent, such as DEET, Picaridin or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus. Make sure you follow label directions!

DOOR and window screens should be in good working condition. This will prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.

DISTRICT personnel are available to address any mosquito problem you may be experiencing by calling 1-800-429-1022.
