Exciting Announcements about your District One Team!

Sacramento, CA - In the wisdom of an ancient greek philosopher, we are reminded that the most inevitable constant is in fact, change. To that end, we are excited to welcome our newest change agents to the Sacramento City Council District One team. Please join us in welcoming two new superstars and congratulating an existing superstar in her new promotion.

As of July 23rd, the new District One Chief of Staff will be Ms. Karina Talamantes.

Karina is a UC Davis graduate with nearly a decade of experience in work force development, education, government, policy, research and administration. She is also Sacramento County's newest elected representative. She will be sworn into office tonight as a Sacramento County Office of Education, Trustee.

Karina is a hard worker and a quick learner. She is bilingual and ready to use her skills to serve her City and community. She lives in the Regency Park neighborhood of District One and is a frequent visitor of our area dog parks with her sweet side kick, Ash - her 3 year old yellow lab.

In addition to her work locally, Karina spent a summer in Washington DC working on Presidential education reforms to address the achievement gap in our youth's academic experiences across the United States of America.

We are fortunate to have the energy and talent of this bright young woman on our team and in our City. Get ready Natomas, Karina has endless enthusiasm and she is ready to work.

Starting next week on July 16th, our new District Director will be Ms. Erica Castillo.

Erica is a bright shinning light. She comes to us with a decade of professional experience. She has been a leader in the business community in her roles with the Metro Chamber of Commerce and as a business owner herself. She is also a familiar face in the south area of our city as she recently served as staff to the Mack Road Partnership.

Erica is a digital media guru, with lots of community engagement experience. She is also well known in the fitness world as the founder of Fit Crawl, a great event raising over 10,000 dollars for local charities (think beer crawl but better for your abs). Erica is a certified pilates trainer and has been a part of the Sacramento fitness community for several years.

We expect to be in great shape with this super star. She is an organized talented woman with lots of experience addressing tough constituent concerns and helping promote events and engaging broad audiences to participate in important community dialogues.

Erica is a proud Sac State grad, and a graduate of the City's prestigious City Management Academy.

We are fortunate to have not one, but two amazing young women coming on board. Both Erica and Karina are ready to serve and we are thrilled to have them on our team.

With nearly 1000 participants per year the YAC volunteer program has taken on a life of its own. Brie will provide much needed support to help oversee the dozens of youth participants who earn an opportunity to receive compensation (stipends or pay) as leaders in the youth program.

She will also coordinate with local businesses, schools, non-profits and apartment complexes to recruit youth and to provide additional life skills training opportunities (such as interviewing, mentoring, scholarship finding, college application help, money management and other valuable resources for our young people).

Brie lives in Natomas, graduated from Inderkum in 2015 and is entering her final year at Sac State. Her anticipated graduation is spring of 2019.

Brie started in our youth program as a volunteer at 14 years old. Seven years later, she has been a leader, an intern and an important member of our team. We are beyond proud of Brie and excited to see her take the reigns on this next opportunity.

Please join us in congratulating all three of these amazing, talented, young women who will help lead the District One team into our third term. We have big goals and lots to do. These ladies are going to be an incredibly important part of all that we will achieve together over the next four years.

Welcome aboard Karina and Erica and congratulations Brie.... now let's get to work.
