Mayor Pro Tem Angelique Ashby to host Women’s Roundtable addressing homelessness among Women & Children

Sacramento, CA

ANNOUNCEMENT

Mayor Pro Tem Angelique Ashby will host a Women’s Roundtable at the City of Refuge in Oak Park, addressing homelessness among Women and Children in the City of Sacramento on Wednesday, February 20th.

Mayor Pro Tem Angelique Ashby will bring together 40+ leaders from homeless service agencies, domestic violence agencies, and government agencies to address issues that impede housing for women and children. The roundtable will allow organizations to discuss barriers to providing services to families.

Mayor Steinberg presented an expenditure plan of $37 million to address homelessness. So far, one million of these funds have been allocated toward homelessness among women and children. Mayor Pro Tem Angelique Ashby is not opposed to the Mayor’s proposal, but believes a greater portion of the overall funds should be used in ways that are inclusive of a broader population including women and children facing homelessness.

Mayor Pro Tem Angelique Ashby has asked the City Manager, Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency, and leading non-profit organizations actively addressing homelessness for their input. It is clear that prevention efforts and solutions to address homelessness need to be targeted to specific sub-populations. This roundtable aims to direct a pointed conversation around the paradigm of poverty facing women and children in Sacramento.
