ANNOUNCEMENT
Natomas Unified School District leaders and Sacramento Councilwoman Angelique Ashby will help kick off an Inderkum High School Public Safety Pathway event today (Sept. 20) at which multiple police and fire units, including a helicopter unit, will be on hand for officers to answer students’ questions about potential careers in law enforcement and firefighting.
NUSD Trustees, Councilwoman Ashby, Supt. Chris Evans, and other district officials will participate in a media availability near Inderkum High School football at 11 a.m., minutes before students arrive. The campus is located at 2500 New Market Drive in North Natomas.
Inderkum’s Public Safety Pathway, set to launch next year, exemplifies the type of partnership between city agencies and local schools that can benefit students and the Sacramento community for decades to come.
Active police officers and firefighters will play a vital role in Inderkum’s Public Safety Pathway, providing industry knowledge and mentoring participating students. Instruction will include hands-on exercises and project-based lessons. Graduates will be college and career ready, physically fit, and have a solid foundation for a public service career.
The Public Safety Pathway will focus on academics as well as career training. Students will take courses in Public Service while enrolled in core academic classes – English, History, Science and Math.
The planned Public Safety Pathway will complement Inderkum’s existing rigorous academic programs, including International Baccalaureate (IB), the California Early College Academy dual-enrollment program, and a Broadcast Media Pathway taught by former ABC 10 journalist Melissa (Crowley) May.
